Internet Marketers and Spam
December 07, 2007
I'm pretty impressed.
In the past two or three months, I've been easing back into the whole Internet Marketing thing. There's been a ton of stuff going on, products that have come out, new things to learn - and now that I'm back on the ball, I'm doing a bit of catch-up.
So I've signed up for a LOT of email lists. And as always, I use a gmail account that only has one use - subscribing to Internet Marketing newsletters.
I was just browsing through the newsletters, figuring out which ones were keepers, and which ones I should unsub from, and which ones I need to monitor ... when I realized something.
There was not a single spam message in the lot. As far as I could see, yes, I DID sign up for every one of those gazillion and one newsletters.
I must admit, I'm impressed. In the past, I've had to let go of a few emails specifically because of the spam problem.
None of these marketers have sold their email lists. So I guess when they say, "we value your privacy and will never sell or give away your email info" - most of them mean it!

Oh you are so lucky! I've noticed with the holiday season in full swing that I'm getting spammed by the usual perscription services, handbags and watches :) I'm not sure who I might have signed up with on it, but it seems to be on a steady increase. I was thinking of changing my usual email to something else just to get rid of the influx. Maybe I'll need to start banning IPs... seems so harsh. But this is becoming a lot.

Empress, for any new newsletters you sign up with, try using a free email account instead. That way at least you'll know if it's the newsletters you've signed up with that are selling your email. And if you do end up getting spammed, it's easy enough to just drop the free email and move on to a new one.
About your current situation, it's a tough one when your main email address is getting a lot of spam. :( I see a trickle of spam with my main email, but nothing too bad yet. It happened to my husband, though, and he had to drop the email he was using and create a new one, plus alert all of his contacts ...
