Ouch! Exchange Rate Blues ...
October 10, 2007
The US dollar to Canadian dollar conversion rate has been falling for a little while now. I'd been getting used to having things be more or less even, but since a lot of my income gets paid either directly into my (Canadian dollar) account, or via cheques, I hadn't really noticed. Even with cheques made out in US dollars, I have a tendency to let the money sit there (I know, I know - wrong thing to do, given the changes in the exchange rate. I figure I'll be smart now and just keep the money in there, see if it will get back to being worth what it was. Hey, does that mean I'm a currency speculator now?)
So it's really only when you have to physically convert the money that it leaps out at you.
But I just withdrew money from Paypal to my bank account ... and experienced a loss of $70! Ouch!
The good news (and there's always a good side, right?) is that now when I buy something online, it's actually less than the stated price. There's nothing like a good excuse to spend, I say. And since I've had quite a long hiatus from buying any new digital products, I'm due for a bit of a shopping spree anyway.
And now that I think about it, I guess this could account for some of my frustration with my Adsense earnings. Some. But not all, most definitely!
