Those Older Sites of Mine
June 07, 2007
Something exciting has been happening lately with some of my older sites, and the timing couldn't be more perfect.
I'm seeing increased traffic and increased commissions, and as far as I can tell, it's solely due to the "grace of age".
I say that because I haven't done much with any of these sites, and I checked and can't find any changes in terms of inbound links, either, so it wasn't like a bunch of webmasters or bloggers out there found these sites and said, "Wow! What a great, wonderful site! I'm going to pour on that link love 'cause this site deserves it, big time!"
But for some reason, I'm receiving more search engine love - some sites are seeing more Yahoo traffic, while a few others are seeing more Google visitors.
The ones showing increased Yahoo traffic are the ones showing the increased sales. Which is another bit of data I'll let stew for a bit.
Not to say that Google visitors aren't buying, but definitely not to the extent that Yahoo visitors are.
One of my sites has a page linking to a merchant that's currently giving me a 25% conversion rate. And my stats tell me that nearly everyone who lands on the page are heading directly over to the merchant. While the traffic to this particular page isn't particularly high, it was much lower just six weeks ago - it's now doubled in traffic.
(Doubling in traffic sounds great, but of course, it's all relative. If you have one visitor one day, and you get two the next, you've doubled your traffic. This site wasn't doing quite that badly, but we're not talking huge numbers here, either. But obviously, this site's going to get some attention from me now.)
With the Christmas shopping season fast approaching (I LOVE September!), this has been quite the motivation for me. I always tend to need something to jumpstart my "affiliate marketing mode" right around now, and getting sales from old sites that I had more or less figured would just sit there (who wants to pull the plug and give up all that work?) is exactly the push I need.
So I've shifted into affiliate marketing gear again, after having my focus on other things for the past few months.
AND I've signed up for another Campaign Blast challenge - and this time around, I'm hoping to set up more campaigns that will get stronger as the shopping season approaches.
It's time to roll up my sleeves, dig in and get into full affiliate marketing mode - it's summer time!

Hey, can't wait to see what you do to jumpstart those sites :)
The same thing is happening with me - my older sites are just now getting some good traffic, especially from Google, so I'm focusing mainly on them... seems like things on our sites always happen to us around the same time!

It does seem like these things happen to us at about the same time, doesn't it?
I plan on digging out all the tools of promotion that I know, and applying them to these older sites.
What we focus on expands, so who knows?!

I'm seeing the domain age boost, too! I have sites full of dupe content suddenly getting pages out of supplemental. Thin aff sites suddenly getting jumps in traffic.
This makes me think twice about dumping non-performing domains.

I know - isn't it such FUN? And the motivation is the best, especially at this time of the year.
