The Art of Writing Adwords Ads
March 30, 2007
Deceptive title, I must admit, because it's not like I have any gems to impart about the art of writing ads for Adwords.
Actually, I've been looking for a bit of guidance.
I've been using the Campaign Blasts system and really loving it. So far, I have been finding about one winner out of every 10 campaigns that I put up, and I have been having such a good time finding new products and merchants to promote.
But the toughest part of all of this Adwords stuff for me is writing the ad.
Mind you, with practice, I've been writing ads pretty quickly, but the thing is, I'm not so sure they're GOOD ads.
Unlike sticking an affiliate link on a page or in a blog post - which is when you WANT people to click through, just because they might possibly buy something - with Adwords I'm very conscious of the fact that I only really want people to click through who are going to buy.
So the key seems to be weeding out the tire kickers and curiosity seekers while at the same time enticing those who are ready to buy, or at least, ready to be persuaded to buy.
I haven't figured out yet if putting the price in your ad is a good thing or not.
The way the Campaign Blasts system works, you may not actually get a lot of clicks unless you happen to hit on a good niche. And so far, while I've discovered a couple of "winners", none of them are THOSE kinds of winners. So I can test ads, but I've got nothing really to test with yet.
The really nice thing about Campaign Blasts is that it is definitely an easy way of doing market research. As Matt Levenhagen writes, you're really a market researcher first when you're blasting.
Which is one reason why the system has such potential!
But most of all, I'm hopeful that in a few months, I'll have even more winners to report on. In the meantime, though, I'm still on the lookout for material that will teach me how to write a good Adwords ad.
