A Drop in PageRank
November 10, 2006
I just pulled up this blog on my browser, and see that I have lost PageRank. Yes, I am now down to a 4. I decided to scoot backwards in time and check some of my older posts, and some of them are now loving it up with a huge PR of 0. Even older ones hold a PR of 3.
Since yes, I am curious about stuff like this, I scooted over to check my stats, but there's no change. I'm getting the same number of search engine visitors. I checked up on a few of my keywords and I've still got the same search rankings.
Strange. I've said before the whole PR thing boggles my mind and it still does. Still, there was something so nice, warm and cozy-feeling about seeing a high(er) number on the little PR box displayed by my Firefox PR plugin.
Looking on the bright side, this should (1) cut down on the amount of trackback spam I'm getting and (2) cut down on the number of link exchange requests I'm getting.
Also, the lower PR won't have any effect on my potential Text Link Ad sales here. Mainly because Text Link Ads don't work on a Typepad blog (I know. I tried.)
See? There's always at least one bright side.

Hi, it's true, you have a big fat zero on my Google plug in for Firefox.
But wait.
On my search status tool bar you are showing a juicey fat 6.
Something must be up with the Google toolbar, I have noticed it for a number of sites.
You can get the toolbar at http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/ it does a lot of other funkey things like backlinks, indexing, alexa, etc. All useful stuff for the online marketer.
I'm not connected in anyway with them and it's free. Just sharing a great tool.

I'm still showing the 4 - it must be my plug-in. I've had so little luck with them in the last little while!

Hi BJ - I'm using the 'Search Status' FF extension and I could confirm that your at a 6:)

Hi BJ,
i don't think PR is all it's cracked up to be, even if you rank ultra high in the SERPs.
i feel that there's a market shift towards an organic/social networking model of traffic.
and lately social bookmarking and community sites are easier to pull traffic from, going by my personal experience.

There is some problem with non-update of some Google Page Rank servers... I experience the same problem and it harm my business badly.

Well, I wouldn't say it was harming me. I think on my end it was because I was having problems with the Firefox PR plugin I was using. I'm using another one now and everything is back to normal.

Belle (it means beautiful in french. I think you know that.)
You have a nice blog. You are PR 4 on my firefox google toolbar. but don't bother with this.
The PR on my blogs is always changing too.
P.S: I like your about me page. Like you, I came to blogging essentially to drive traffic to my sites, BUT I "falled in love" with blogs and the blogging community...
When I read that you updated it after 2 years, I said ok. I'm not the only one.
I'll read your blog more often now.

Thanks, Franck. I'm not posting as often as I'd like to - it's busy around here, with both online sales and my offline deadlines (no excuse, I know!). Yes, I've definitely fallen in love with blogging!

Hey BF, glad to see you pounding away on your blog. I've just (finally) started mine, just like you said I should.
Thanks for the link to the Firefox PR checker, helpful for Mac users. Yea, checking PR is probably silly, but dang, silly things are just fun sometimes.
Best to Belle and her bountiful blog.

Phil, it's great to hear from you! And your blog looks good.
I agree - silly things are fun sometimes. And fun's what life's all about ;)
