Looking Forward and Living Now

October 19, 2006

Long-time readers may be noticing that I've been posting a lot more here over the last little while (if any of you are still hanging around after the drought of posts over the summer, that is. But hey, in addition to trying to build 50 affiliate sites, I was also off finding myself, so it was all good.)

I've just been sitting here marvelling at it myself. And that's when I realized that things are so much better this year, this time, for me, in comparison to last year this time.

I'm not going to bother going over last year.

What's important is the now.

So, this year:

1. In my offline business, I've discovered a way to work faster and more efficiently, so assignments are no longer as draining as they used to be. Yes, even though I am starting the busy period.

2. I have finally found a good assistant! After a few not so great outsourcing incidents last year (after which luckily Chrissie and Gail stepped in and helped me out), I was rather turned off at the idea of finding someone good. But this year has been a good year in all things, and without even looking for an assistant, I found one. And she's been working out great. She helps me with linking and also handles the more mundane, time-consuming parts of my offline work.

Not only that, I found two other great people who also want to take some of the work off my hands! So it's been a lot easier around here as a result.

3. After I realized that my online income was higher than I thought (spreadsheets do help), I took a look at my schedule and incoming work, and made the decision this year to turn down work around the holiday season in December. This was a huge step for me, because that's the time when traditionally things get really busy for me offline, but it was a good decision.

Here's something funny: several of the assignments I turned down because I didn't want to accomodate a December deadline actually came back to me with revised deadlines, just so I could take them on.

So right now, this moment, I feel like things are really working. I'm getting closer and closer to my goal of making more online than I do offline.

As for what this has to do with my posting volume, well, I find I have a bit more time these days. I'm getting back into the whole online marketing world (especially after this summer when, did I mention, in addition to the 50 affiliate site challenge I was happily off finding myself? And this really is a culmination of that time). I'm reading more blogs, newsletters, forums. I'm feeling more in the flow of all of this.

In other words, I sure hope this keeps up. Because it's fun.

(I'm only kidding about finding myself over the summer. Actually, it all started last November and it's never-ending. Which is the way it should be.)
