Adsense vs. Affiliate Links

September 15, 2006

Someone recently asked me which makes me more money - Adsense or affiliate links.

I make far more money from my affiliate links.

I'm talking only about my own sites here, not other people's sites that I work on.

What I find is that I seem to convert really well on my affiliate pages, and because the commissions I get per sale are much higher than the amounts I get per click with Adsense, my affiliate income is definitely much much higher. This is despite the fact that I get far more traffic to my Adsense sites than I do to my affiliate sites.

I'm still not too sure about the whole Adsense combined with affiliate links on the same page thing, either. As far as I can tell, having a bit of Adsense on a page doesn't seem to hurt my affiliate clickthrough or conversion rates at all. On the other hand, several of my sites are affiliate links only.

I have slowly been building traffic for my batch of Adsense sites, but my clickthrough rate with Adsense is dismal. I've got one site that gets great traffic, and some days the clickthrough rate has a"0." in front of it.

I've decided that maybe it's time to start purchasing some of those newer Adsense infoproducts out there. (Got one you'd recommend? Let me know either via email or in the comments, please and thank you!)

Reading through blogs it seems to be pretty obvious that affiliate links make more money. I would say it's a more advance stage of internet advertisement. The choice of affiliate programs is pretty big. I think to any product will bring you good money. I have signed up for a credit card affiliate program. So far so good. I get $4 for every application and up to $90 for an approved credit card.
