There's Gold in Them Stats

August 24, 2006

This is probably something not at all new to most of you, but it's been even more of a help to me now that I have quite a few product sites up.

When I look at my stats these days, I don't just look to see how many uniques I'm getting, how long they're cruising around the site, what pages are popular, and what search phrases are doing well.

I've been taking a good look at the more obscure search phrases, those one-hit wonders, because I'm seeing that with my product sites, these phrases are a lot more product-oriented - and best of all, sometimes they signal a niche to be explored.

I am now putting together a new site that's based on some search phrases that kept coming up on one of my product sites. Last night, I headed over to Wordtracker and dug around, and it's looking good.

I'm hoping to get a leg up on things, by using a domain that I had hanging around, that's already been indexed but wasn't doing much of anything, with not much of any content on it.

Most of all, I'm keeping in mind that this is all fun stuff. Because it is. Also, I'm counting this new one as one of the new affiliate sites, knocking down my total 50 count - I've got about 15 or 14 more to go.

(And by the way, here's an update on that goal of mine - while the new sites I have up are all indexed, nothing much more has been happening. I figure once I reach my goal, I will have to work on getting backlinks and adding more content. And no, I don't think I'll ever tackle a goal like this again!)

Wow, 50 affiliate sites is quite a challenge. It'll be an accomplishment to complete them. All the best to building multiple streams of income!

I figure that for me, I will probably focus on a few niches, and build deep upon each.
