I Really Do Love This Business
July 11, 2006
Well, at least right now I do.
I've been somewhat scarce around this blog the last little while, as some of you might have noticed. And you probably have all been thinking I've been slaving away industriously working on my 50 affiliate sites, getting everything primed and ready for the big shopping season, right?
Not.
I've got 38 sites up - huge thanks here to Xsite Pro and Wordpress - but most of them have only a page or two of very well-themed content (and well-written, I might add - naturally) and they're sitting pretty, getting Googled and hopefully indexed.
But to be absolutely honest, here's what happened. I got so fed-up with the non-progress of the last batch of new sites I had put up earlier this year, that I did what I tend to do whenever I get fed-up. I took a mental break from it all, kind of walked away, figuratively speaking. Oh, I still did the usual amount of regular Website work that I've somehow managed to build up - basically, my regular pro-blogging routine, plus adding pages to established sites that have been doing well - but not much more than that.
The weather's been great, and I've been lazing around outside. Going out with the kids and my husband, shopping, beaches, stuff that I can't do in the winter because it's either too cold or I'm too pressed for time.
Anyway, back to the topic, which is that I love this business. I love it because even after taking a long mental break, I am still making money, and I am thrilled to say that last month was my biggest money earning month so far.
But there's more. I also came back to find that in the last algo-shift Google-wise, that batch of new sites that I'd been feeling so frustrated about have finally stepped out of the sandbox. Hits to these new sites have increased by about 30%, and my existing sites have stayed stable. I'm very happy indeed.
So, what's not to love, right?
Disclaimer: This post in no way means I won't be complaining some time down the road after the effects of the next Google shakeup. In fact, I probably will. But I figure I'd better write down these loving feelings while they're here, because the U might bring me more of the same. And that, I'd like.

And of course, I had to leave for another break. You can't have too many of them, I have to say! And while I've been away, everything kept working. You've just got to love that!
