Upgrading Wordpress

February 13, 2006

I just went through an incredibly tense experience - I upgraded two of my Wordpress installations to Wordpress 2.01.

It really isn't a difficult process. The directions at Wordpress on upgrading are very clear and comprehensive. And Teli has a post on her Optiniche blog which walks you through backing up your database, which was the part I really wanted to do right.

But there is just something so nerve-wracking about messing around with an established blog.

It took me longer than it would have if I hadn't been so nervous, but I double-checked and triple-checked my database backups, my Wordpress file backups, the files I wanted to keep, the files I'm supposed to delete, and the files I had unzipped ready to upload.

I don't think I breathed very much the entire time.

I feel very tired now. But I did it! And I hope I don't have to do it again anytime soon.
