A Networking Book
January 13, 2006
Thanks very much to Steve at TechWise Idea-Machine for emailing me about a post he wrote recently about a book called Love is the Killer App. He thought it was something I might be interested in, after reading my last post about what I learned in 2005.
After reading his review of the book, I have put it on my "to buy" list - I liked this part of his review in particular:
The reason for taking your contacts seriously as pointed out in this book: You have a ready supply of people whose interests/professions you know about, whom you could contact when you’ve run into valuable information they might be interested in.
This allows you to build a network of very grateful people ( and grateful people help you out also, but this is not about trying to get something, folks), whom you now have contacts for in a permanent sytem.
I've heard of this idea before, but I really like the way Steve put it, and I'm intrigued by what's in the book as a whole. From the Amazon description, it sounds like Tim Saunders, the author, and "director of Yahoo!'s in-house thinktank" has devoted the entire book to exactly how to network in this way. Kind of like spreading your growing info-trove in a loving way - now, that's the kind of networking that's right up my alley!
(For more information about the book, Steve has a link to it at the bottom of his post. He's also posted a quick and easy method of capturing the email addresses of those you'd like to keep on your contact/networking list.)
