Online Shopping Sales Numbers, and Picking Niche Sites

December 12, 2005

According to Comscore Networks, online shopping during this holiday season has increased by 23% over last year's numbers at this time. If you check out the release for December 11, there's also a breakdown of the top consumer searches for toys.

TamingtheBeast reports the following niches are the fastest growing ones. I couldn't find the specific press release at Comscore that addressed these niches/numbers, but still, it's an interesting list to start the brainstorming process for next year's sites:

* Sports and Fitness - up 59%
* Furniture, appliances and equipment - up 50%
* Apparel and accessories - up 37%
* Home and garden - up 36%
* Video games, consoles and accessories - up 30%

Thanks for these results. I don't feel so hopeless about my outdoor furniture site now.
