Interesting Traffic Surge

December 03, 2005

It's not exactly the Slashdot effect, or the Digg effect, but for the past few days I've experienced a major surge in traffic on one of my sites. The reason? I posted about something which is quite new, and it looks like lots of people are searching for it.

My stats show that I am number one at Google for a number of variations of related keywords.

The sad thing is that while traffic has more than tripled, I haven't seen any increase in Adsense. This is most likely because people are using my page as a gateway to what they're looking for. (Too bad it's not an affiliate link!) The other reason is probably because the Adsense ads are pretty lousy on that page.

On the other hand, I am seeing an increase in repeat visitors, so maybe there's a benefit after all.

Well, at least it's not exactly a huge bandwidth drain. And it's been nice for this relatively neglected site of mine to get some search engine attention.

I understand your frustration on getting the visitors but no earnings - the site of mine that has the most visitors makes the least $$$.

It is nice to get a new little flood of traffic though, congratulations :)

Thanks, Jenn. If you're talking about the site I think you're talking about, there's no comparison between our two sites! Yours is a great site, and deserves the high traffic. :)

Well dang if you do and dang if you don't ;)
Actually it's a good thing that they don't click on your ads, it means that your blog is what they are looking for. :)
What are they looking for?

Can I recommend a more prolific use of Adsense? It seems there are very few adsense ads on your interior pages. I know they are distracting to your excellent content but If you want to bring home the bacon you may need to be a little more overt.
