Women's Product Blogs
November 10, 2005
If you enjoy blogging, but have been wondering about a niche to get into, Andy Hagans has a good post over at Performancing on Product Blogs for Women:
The genius part about a product-oriented blog is that your ads, or affiliate reviews, are your strongest content. The ads are the main reason readers come to your blog, so it's no surprise that they convert better. Product-oriented blogs are just easier to make money with because of what they are.
And when you think about it, he's absolutely right. I think about some of the magazines I subscribe to, and you know, if you cut out the ads from them, I probably wouldn't want them anymore (not to mention they'd only have about 30 pages in them).
Andy then goes on to examine Manolo's Shoe Blog's business model, and comes up with some good points about how the blog is monetized:
1. Diversity of revenue streams.
2. Credibility cannot be faked.
3. Perfect for Chitika eMiniMalls
4. Perfect type of blog for including affiliate links in your content.
I've been finding that Chitika eMiniMalls work great in product blogs. I've actually been tempted to just pull Adsense off some of mind and use Chitika eMiniMalls with contextual ad targeting turned on. The clickthroughs are not as good as for Adsense but the amounts I've been making are definitely higher.
One of the best things about doing a product blog is that they're very easy to write and there are a ton of resources so you're never short of content. And if you pick a product that you really like, it's even easier. I have a few blogs I've just started that are about products I really like, and it's so much fun, it never feels like I'm working.
