This Blog Goes Commercial ... Sort Of

October 02, 2005

I've spent my day messing around here on this blog, and if you're tuning in from a feed, you'll see the results. If you have the main page bookmarked, click on the title of this post which will take you to the page for the individual post.

Note: Update.

So, what do you all think? Nice? Cheesy? Nice job? Cool stuff?

I've been wanting to experiment with this for a while. I don't use Adsense on this blog, but I thought a list of recommended products might be helpful, with the big benefit of working well for me, too, since I do tend to get a lot of search engine visitors.

I'm pretty proud of myself, actually. I'm using an include, and I have it set up so that if my text is too long, I'll automatically get a scroll bar on the side. Just learned that one today! Mind you, it was a real pain coordinating the look of the box between Firefox and IE.

Hi BJ. I'm a long time reader, first time poster, love the site.

Interesting idea you have here. I think the Recommended Products ad section would be better served at the bottom of the post. IMO, most people that come here will probably read the whole post and see that anyway. Also, have you considered linking those links to your Product Reviews? You already have two of them and i'm sure it wouldn't be hard to write a couple quick ones for the others. It might seem less like you're forcing an affiliate link on someone.

Just a thought. :)

I think it looks good :) I enjoy reading your reviews! I always find them helpful in my decision making process.

I like the recent comments you added too on the navigation bar!

I think it's great - that way if I want to buy something you've reviewed, I won't have to search the archives for it. Leave it there!

Thanks for posting your comment, Brandon. Some good ideas there - although you know, sometimes I get so long-winded, people may not read all of the post! But I'll keep your idea in mind - I'd like to see how the experiment goes first in terms of all the search results I get.

Thanks, Chrissie. I'm glad you like my reviews - and you noticed the new comments section! I'm trying to figure out how to add excerpts now, too.

Tara, it's so funny that you mention that. I actually had someone do exactly that, looking for my Xsite Pro affiliate link. She couldn't find it on the blog, so she emailed the Xsite Pro people and asked them for my affiliate link. They sent it to her, too LOL
