Quick notes: Blogging Cheatsheets, Chikita eMiniMalls, Free Weekly Keyword List, and A Few More Things
October 27, 2005
I've been a little bit silent this past week, and it's mainly due to the workload. I've managed to stay on track and get through several (and I mean several) offline deadlines, and am facing my last two. I can hardly wait until Monday, when I can finally take a break.
Add to that a number of things, like server problems with a number of blogs I'm writing for (including Typepad here) (so I've also been spending time catching up on blog posts) and several programs on my desktop suddenly becoming CPU memory hogs - it's just been crazy around here.
Not that I haven't had anything to blog about, either. I've come across a number of things this past week that I've wanted to write posts about. So here they are, very short takes, in no particular order:
Andy Wibbel has some great "blogging cheatsheets" available in PDF format if you're new to blogging - the cheatsheets come in four flavors: Moveable Type, Typepad, Blogger and Wordpress.
I finally signed up for Chikita eMiniMalls. It's too early to see results, and I've only put it on one site so far that doesn't get a lot of traffic, but it's very easy to work with - since I'm short on time this week, I wanted to experiment with placement and stuff on a site where I can accidentally muck up the template and not worry too much about it. Chikita is definitely something to consider if you have any product-oriented sites. You can easily check what sort of ads particular keywords will display by using the search function on the sample ad on their home page. Sign up here (aff link). It doesn't take long to get approved.
Andre Chaperon is offering his newsletter subscribers a free weekly keyword list. In his words:
Not just a crappy Overture/Yahoo! keyword list... but an all-singing-all-dancing WORDTRACKER keyword list!
Google Base is all the news, with speculation that Google may be going for eBay. This, hot on the heels of last week's speculations about Google Purchases (gunning for Paypal?).
And finally, I am going to make a totally unscientific speculation about visitors, search engines, and Adsense. Ever since the (currently ongoing) Google Update Jagger (1 already done, 2 in process and 3 to come), I've been getting a lot more traffic to most of my sites. The sad sad thing, though, is that Google visitors don't seem to be as inclined to click on Adsense ads. My page impressions have gone up and my CTR has gone down, so that at the end of the day, my Adsense is only up a little bit. Oh well.
