Moving Forward
September 14, 2005
While I was offline, as I started thinking about getting back to my online work again, I also began thinking about where I'm headed online. Ironically, being offline for so long does now give me some motivation. While I was away, not adding any content, not doing anything to any of my sites, they all kept merrily making money. I received checks in the mail, and when I finally did go online to check email, I received some Paypal payments and my Adsense was the same as usual.
Receiving the checks was actually quite a jolt (not a bad jolt). Because while I was away, the Internet was very far away from my mind most of the time. So it was kind of funny receiving these checks every now and then.
I've decided I really need to start sharpening my focus. I was playing with all sorts of things, throwing a variety of different sites up and seeing what works. But now I'm ready to focus on two different road maps. One involves blogging, and the other involves setting up niche clusters of sites.
I am very fond of Darren Rowse's Problogger, so I've also decided to change the way I do things here at Adventures somewhat, using Problogger as a model. Nothing too drastic, but basically more commentary about affiliate marketing and web publishing, and trying to post more frequently about the latest news in our field. I don't think I could ever let go of the more personal style I use here, because that is, simply put, the way I write naturally, but I hope to provide more news and commentary and overall make this blog more useful for everyone.
I've also decided to change my blog about blogging (Working Blogger, but don't bother going there just yet because my last post was way back in the early summer). Initially, I was going to talk mainly about entrepreneurial blogging there, but I've decided to revamp the purpose of that blog, and it will be more about my blogging life. So it will be more personal than Adventures, with a focus on blogs, blogging, and my life as a blogger.
The Internet marketing world has, naturally, kept moving along while I was offline. There are a bunch of new products flying around - some good, some bad. I've been hitting the forums and various blogs to get up-to-date on things. But it definitely feels good to be back online!

Sounds like you have a good plan, I look forward to following along.
I have recently been trying to narrow my focus and organize myself - it's ongoing since I am a clutterbug ;) Some of my stuff is going so well and other stuff... not so much lol.

I definitely know that clutterbug feeling. I'm still actually looking at doing a lot of stuff, it's just that now I'm trying to round my various sites up into various broader niches.
Maybe it just makes me feel like I'm getting really focused even though I'm still juggling all the 1001 site ideas I usually have :)
