Pardon My Hiatus

August 02, 2005

I just realized I've been gone for far too long in blog-time. Chalk it up to a "vacation" - translated: I've been doing daytrips all last week with the kids. Which really means going to way too many theme parks and kid attractions, standing in too many line-ups underneath signs that say "one hour wait from this point", all the while trying to shuffle close enough to get under a bit of shade.

Can you tell I had massive amounts of fun?

But things have settled back down now, and I should be back to a more regular blogging schedule. Some things on the horizon: I've been looking at getting more automated, so I've been checking out some of the keyword research tools.

Let me tell you, this is one long story. I'll just say for now that I had to get a couple of refunds, including a refund for the program that I've now decided is the one that will work best for me. Since this program has increased in price, I'm hoping they'll reverse my refund. (I know, I know, how do I get myself into spots like this, right? Let's just say I can be a little impatient and make up my mind a little too quickly, and leave it at that, shall we?) And in the meantime, I'm waiting to hear back about the refund for the second program I tried that just didn't work very well for my needs.

And finally, some good news. My last post was about the results of the last Yahoo algo shift. I'm happy to report that, while my traffic levels haven't gone back up to where they were before (traffic is still hovering at around 1/10th of what they were on the sites that were affected), my Adsense is actually not doing that badly from those sites. I'm still not making the pre-Yahoo-changes level of income, but I'm making more than 1/10th. This is mainly because, right before traffic got hit, I had actually gone in and changed the design of a couple of the sites that were affected, and made them more Adsense-friendly. The new ad placement is working out well, and my CTR is well above what it was just a few weeks ago.

Of course, I'd be really happy if this CTR was being matched with those old traffic levels. But I'm not going to angst about it. Just build more sites, write more content and give visitors what they want. That's my latest affiliate marketing mantra.

Welcome back to the blogosphere. At least your hiatus was for fun stuff, which beats mine.

Well, when you put it that way (hope your back's feeling better), you're absolutely right. It WAS kind of fun, in comparison.

Altho ... I didn't get much reading done ...
