Today's Progress Report
June 08, 2005
The bad news is that I didn't get too much "implementation" stuff done today. The good news is that I managed to sit myself down at my computer for most of the day, and worked on some behind the scenes stuff. So on the one hand, I don't have anything I can point to ("look! a few more pages! look! new site FTP'd and in perfect condition!"), but on the other hand ...
Well, maybe this isn't such a good thing. Truth is, I spent most of the day at Wordtracker. And the problem with spending the day at Wordtracker is that Wordtracker is like a proxy idea generation tool for me. I usually start out with a blank piece of paper in front of me while I'm doing my keyword research, because I know that by the time I'm done, I'll have thought of another long list of keywords that I want to check out. If you've never thought of Wordtracker that way before, try it - it really does work like that (well, for me it does, anyway). You just have to open up your mind to any thoughts that stray in while you're doing the mindnumbing task of growing your keyword list and make sure you capture those stray thoughts on paper. For me, those stray thoughts usually end up being possible niches.
I really didn't mean to go to Wordtracker today, but one of my plans is to build two sites, just for this blog. I know in the affiliate marketing world, people don't let out a peep about their sites (well, except for some fearless, honest, open and wonderful souls like Tara, Jon and Jen - I think it's a good idea, actually, making full use of their blogs' PRs plus getting their new pages spidered and indexed quickly) but I get a lot of questions about SEO Website Builder (and now Xsite Pro, too), so I thought I would just go ahead and build a couple of sites with each of these tools and post them here on my blog.
There definitely are differences between the two pieces of software, and surprisingly, each has its strong points. I know a lot of people are interested in a comparison, and I'll be writing a comparison post soon. (And yes, I say "surprisingly" because after watching that Xsite Pro video, I have to admit I was thinking it would be head and shoulders above SEO Website Builder. But it turns out they are both different enough that they each have different strong points.)
Anyway, to make a long post a lot shorter than it might have been, I've been thinking that the best way to create these example sites will be to use articles from the different article directories. But I still have to pick the niches, which was why I was over at Wordtracker.
Naturally, I just had to multitask while at Wordtracker (does anyone NOT? I mean, I really like Wordtracker, but it is not the fastest process in the whole world, is it?). And since I was being very good and disciplined (no forum roaming for me today), I opened up the special Gmail account I have set up to receive articles from the various yahoo article lists I joined specifically for this purpose. With all that storage space available, I can store tons of free content, all properly labeled into their correct categories.
The only problem was that the last time I checked that email address was back in April.
Yes. I see you're starting to see what I'm saying. You're feeling for me, aren't you? Well, you're right. I logged in and there were 5700 plus articles sitting there, patiently waiting for me to sort through them.
Ouch.
Anyway, I only have 2320 articles left in my inbox now. The rest have been either filed away or gently placed in the trash.
So that's what I did today. And since this is turning out to be yet another long post, and I did say I was going to post the link to my new blog about blogging, here it is, for those of you who have patiently waded through all my chatter to the end of this post: Working Blogger.
(Kind of catchy name, huh?)

Are we twins? LOL
I spent some time on Wordtracker today too. And I agree, its a great idea generator! I have been getting some work done. But I took a break from the new blog as its just annoying me, so close too;) Been a good Mom too spending time with the kids, watching movies and playing games its been storming EVERY DAY!
I started another new site, added some articles to an existing site, worked on my message boards and updated a few smaller sites.
Really should have waited on this new site but I am "ADD" like that. I have one site in redesign and another new site *almost* ready to go and a template I am waiting on for a large content site - I got 35 pages done yesterday when I had no power, ack. I need more hours and more sleep!! Sorry for rambling. Maybe I should just goto bed, I just got done confusing Tara over on her blog [blushing].

Geez, Chrissie - how on earth did you manage to get all that stuff done? I swear, I get to Wordtracker and there's only so much I can do on the side while I'm running my searches. 35 pages, and you had no power!
I think I need more coffee.

Well now the sucky part is that is a written 35 pages... they need to be typed now that I have power LOL.
I was so busy rambling that I realize now also that I didn't specify that was atleast a two day period not just one ;) I need to be more careful when posting so late at night LOL

Oh, I get the no-power thing now (I think I was in need of more coffee first) :) Still, 35 pages is pretty good, even over two days!
