Never Tweak Code Right Before You Intend to Go To Bed
June 01, 2005
It’s 10:50 p.m. right now. The past couple of days have taught me a good lesson.
Never tweak code late at night, thinking you’ll just do “one more little thing” before you pop into bed.
You’d think I would have learned this long ago.
There’s definitely some form of Murphy’s Law going on with tweaking code late at night. Because one thing always leads to another. You fix something but that makes something else go strange. Or you notice something that you just know will bug you and if you go to bed without figuring it out you’ll get insomnia anyway and have to get up at 3:00 a.m. so you can try and fix it.
Anyway, I’ve been tweaking code right before bed the past few nights, and I’m definitely feeling the results. It’s not even midnight and I’m ready for bed already.
And no, I’m not going to try to fix that funny first paragraph alignment thing right now. Definitely not. Absolutely not.
Well, okay. Maybe I’ll just take a quick peek …

Oof, I know what you mean. I was just going to do a quick Wordtracker search last night about 2 or 3 a.m. (I'm a night person) and suddenly I looked up and there was bright sunshine outside. By the time I fell asleep it was 7 am and I had over 600 cleaned up keywords with the competition and Overture searches done.. lol
I'm going to try and get back on track tonight. Being a persistent perfectionist sucks, doesn't it? lol

Tara, I know that feeling all too well! That is most nights for me and then I am grumpy the next day ;)
BJ, I was working on my other blog last night at 4am and I was ready to throw my computer in the lake. It was really that I was overtired and should have went to bed, but nooo that would make sense ;) I did finally give up at 5am.

This is so funny - sounds like it's an occupational hazard :)
I'm all rested again so it will probably be another late night ...

Glad I'm not alone - though it seems to be mainly women, why aren't any men chipping in here? lol
Chrissy WHAT were you doing up @ 9 am if you were up at 5? I thought I was bad.. Tell the kids to make their own breakfast, or the hubby - though from what I'm reading, he sounds like he'd give 'em cereal with o.j. instead of milk ;)

Hehe - I have to say, Hubby is pretty good when he is here. He takes all three kids out and is helpful but his work schedule stinks and school just let out today :(
We should start a blog or message boards for women affiliate marketers and dealing with life and work ;)

Another fatal error is using the phrase, "this should just take one minute," when referring to those little code tweaks.
Happens to me all the time.
I've been told if I participate in blog tag, my luck will improve.
So, sorry bout this, you're it. [ http://www.surfthemind.com/index.php?p=54 for details ]

Chrissie, the women affiliate marketers blog/message board sounds like a great idea. Um, does this mean you're stepping up to the "I'll volunteer to handle this one" platform here? ;)
Tara, around here I'm the one who's likely to pour OJ onto the Cheerios LOL. So I try not to get up with the kids if I can help it. My husband's pretty handy for that.
Wendy, at least you could have tagged me with a blog tag that "should just take one minute". Have some pity! And wouldn't you know it - this is the week I've decided is perfect for reading chick lit :) (Sorry about turning off the html code, btw - too many spammers hitting me so I thought this would be a good deterrence.)

Sure I will volunteer and add it to my "list". It would be alot of fun ;) Although me and blogs aren't doing too well. I think I am just stupid... I can't get my categories added right, grrr.
Happy Friday ;)

The reason there's no men publically admitting they've entered into a 'just a minute' that'll probably take all night is that when it happens to men, most of 'em try to look confident and say, "I meant to do that."
And regarding the book tag, I had to finish up my tag entry last night because the book I was in the middle of, and just finished this morning, was a fluffly, brainless excuse for a romantic adventure novel. I would have hated to admit to that on my blog :)

Chrissie, I can hardly wait. It's a great idea - definitely meets a market/need that's not being addressed! Hey, is the new blog the business/life blog by any chance?
Wendy, I will definitely have to remember this one: "I meant to do that." I like it! I'm not going to ask about the fluffy reading because I'll probably then have to admit that that title happens to be on my to-be-read list.

The message boards thing sounds great.. a big ffa for us to all bitch and rant about life, affiliate marketing and more. I LOVE it! lol If the votes lean towards a blog, I'll start it up. Message boards on the other hand, I've never touched and will leave in Chrissie's capable hands :)
Wendy, you're so right - my favorite line is "one sec!" And I thought it was only my hubby that pulled that crap! lol
BJ, yes, you've mentioned you're not a morning person - you're so damn lucky the hubby handles that stuff. Mine does it with our kids, well our version of kids anyway! (2 dogs, 2 cats) I'm not a morning person either. By that I mean getting UP in the morning or being CHEERFUL in the morning.. lol
And yo ladies - why do you care about justifying fluffy reading material? Enjoy whatever you like - some of my favorite books have never even SEEN the top 10 list, let alone aspired to be on it! lol Screw 'em all if they bug ya about it!
Tara :)
(Sorry for the really late reply, I was away all weekend and just remembered this post!)

I am definitely going to have to add "recent comments" to that overstuffed sidebar of mine ...
Chrissie, Tara, we should run with this women affiliate marketers thing!
