More on My "Example Sites"

June 18, 2005

I've more or less picked my niches for the two example sites I'm going to put up using Xsite Pro and SEO Website Builder. I'm not one to reveal my sites - roaming the forums reading some of the horror stories has made me kind of paranoid about that - but if I'm going to be doing example sites, I've got to make them public. Huge dilemma, huh?

I've decided to use a mix of articles from the various article directories and my own original content. And since I'm going to be posting the sites here, I thought I might as well solve the "make my sites public *gasp*" dilemma by tackling hugely competitive niches that no-one in their right minds would even think about working with.

Since some days I'm not so sure where my right mind is, I figure this approach will work for me.

I've pretty well picked one niche and narrowed down the other one. (After all, I don't have any finance sites in my roster of sites, and rumor is, finance/money are good areas to have a site in. Can anyone say "credit cards" and "credit repair"?)

So today I went over to Shareasale to check out the affiliate programs there. (Out of the big three networks, SAS is my favorite.) Thankfully, there are actually affiliate programs for credit repair services! (I know, I know - I'm supposed to make sure there are actually merchants for a niche before I spend time putting together my keyword lists ... As I was telling Gail, sometimes I really do things backwards.)

And then, as always happens after I check out affiliate programs, I got bit by the idea bug big time and ended up back at Wordtracker again. I've already been there three times this week, managing to spend time there even in the middle of my deadlines.

I'm hoping to finalize the other niche over the weekend and finish up the keyword lists for the two example sites. I'm not going to worry about templates, because I can always switch in new templates in both programs, so hopefully I'll be able to get started on the sites next week. (That is not a "I will do it", that is a "hopefully" which wavers somewhere along the lines of "I'll try". Which, as the motivational and productivity gurus tell us, is not a good phrase to use when you want to get things done.)

Do, or do not - there is no try

Seriously though, I think it's pretty cool that you're revealing your sites, it's a great way to help people learn as well inspirational.

I will be definitely be following along to see how this goes :), I may even follow in your footsteps and reveal a couple of my sites...

I have an ulterior motive in a way, Teli - I'm hoping to inspire myself to do more with my regular sites. I seem to have hit a real "blogging track" these days (especially with the help of those great templates of yours ;) ), but software like Xsite Pro and SEO Website Builder are phenomenol (sp? That is one word I have never been able to spell correctly on my first try and I'm too lazy to go look it up right now) and I should be using them both far more than I'm currently doing.
