Free Resource: Phil Tanny's Keywords-for-You
June 08, 2005
I've had this on my to-do list for way too long. For those of you who have been thinking about buying Keywords Results Analyzer but don't have the cash (or credit) available just yet, check out Phil Tanny's free service, Keywords-for-You.
Phil created this tool because he's on a Mac, and KRA isn't available for Macs. Here's what Phil's Keywords Organizer does:
Keywords Organizer is a free online tool that helps you manage the data from your Wordtracker Competition Research reports. Manage multiple keyword lists in an easy to read display with sortable columns. Add/delete keywords from any list. Email yourself reports that highlight the most promising keywords.
Since I've last been there, I see he's added a Keyword Brainstorming tool, as well:
Keywords Brainstormer is a free service which provides a quick and easy way to find new keywords related to your project. Create, manage, save and download multiple lists of your keywords.
Those of you familiar with Allan Gardyne's Associate Programs forum will know Phil as the philosophical one who gets people thinking beyond your typical affiliate marketing topics. He's a great guy, and I wish he would just go and start a blog so I can fatten up my blogroll.

So, I'm new to these tools, but it seems like Keywords Results Analyzer and Keywords For You just manipulate the data that you get from Wordtracker?
i.e. with a subscription to Wordtracker and a lot of patience with Excel you could get the same thing?

Yes, exactly. If you know your way around Excel, you don't need to use either tool. But if you don't know your way around Excel, either one of these will make your life much easier. Wordtracker is the main essential.

OK, one other question -- I went back to Wordtracker's Web and it site shows screenshots of pretty good looking graphical interface to analyze the data. So is Excel even necessary? Or are they being deceptive with those screenshots?
Thanks!

Where did you find the screenshots? The "tour" area shows you the control panel from which you do all of your searches, but as far as I know, Wordtracker doesn't analyze the data for you. All the data is downloadable in .csv format so that you can manipulate it in any spreadsheet program. You can also receive your data via email.
Probably the best thing would be to sign up for the free trial. It basically does everything that you get with a subscription, except that you only get a limited number of keywords.
