Trying Out XSite Pro

May 22, 2005

A few people have emailed me about XSite Pro. (That’s not an affiliate link, by the way. But if I like the software, I’ll try to remember to come back and edit it to an affiliate link. Edited, June 6: now an affiliate link. Review to be posted soon.) For my sites, I use either Nvu or SEO Website Builder, so I don't really know much about XSite Pro.

I remember when it first came out, I viewed the sales page but honestly, I don't remember anything striking me as "oh, I really must try this".

Unfortunately, there is now a new video related to the site. Unfortunately for my credit card, that is. I watched that video and now I own XSite Pro. (To see the video, click here and scroll down a bit.)

There's a 365 day guarantee period, believe it or not. So I decided to give it a shot. I will write a comprehensive review once I've built a site with it, so if you've been thinking about buying XSite Pro, but aren't sure, you can check back here in the next few weeks.

I will also post a comparison between XSite Pro and SEO Website Builder, because in my search for information on XSite Pro I noticed that this was one question that a lot of people were asking, and one question that wasn't really being answered.

I am quite fond of my SEO Website Builder, so it will be interesting to see how XSite Pro works out in comparison.

On a side note, I must say I'm quite alarmed at how much more easily I reach for that much used credit card of mine these days. While I've always bought physical products online with relative little thought (other than, "I've got to have that"), I used to spend hours and hours pondering the ins and outs of an info product or software.

I'm hoping it's because I've gotten some good use out of most of the downloadable products I've purchased in the past. I still do quite a bit of looking around before I decide to buy, too, so maybe I've just streamlined my research process. I'd like to say I can see past the hype right now, but I doubt it. I'm getting better at that, though.

Hi BJ,

I'll be anxiously awaiting your review. I'm interested in the comparison between SEO WSB & XSitepro. It's been said that for Martell-type sites, SEO WSB is the way to go.

I think I'll go check out that video!!

Cy, don't say I didn't warn you ;) After watching that video, you might not want to wait for my review. :)

That was dangerous, I know I should not have watched the video ;)

I am on a tighter budget at the moment so I have money for the Webmaster Conference next month and all my open projects. But this is an "immeadiate must have" right after ;). I can't wait to see your detailed review BJ!

:) Yes, very dangerous, Chrissie. Although I found that clicking the "47 More Reasons" link afterwards helped to dampen some of the excitement caused by the video. It was very much *yawn*, after which I came to my senses and didn't watch the video again. ;)

But I did go roaming around the forums to see what I could find (after a rather fruitless look-see through Google).

I've printed out the manual and have looked quickly over the tutorial. So far it's still looking pretty good.

I hate XSite Pro, not because the concept isn't good, but because I've never seen worse customer support. I will be interested to see if this gets posted because I would expect that if you receive an affiliate commission, a person could be tempted to not let anyone see this. The problem is their guarantee is a joke because they don't respond when you ask for one. What good is a year guarantee if they cut you off from reaching them? (Besides that, that is semantics. It isn't really a complete guarantee for a year, now is it?) Now, months later, I have their stuff on my hardrive, so I decide to utilize it. Now, apparently because they blocked my requests, (I can't even get into the help desk), I can't get any help whatsoever. I strongly advise steering away from this company. They are unsrupulous.

Hi, Dale,

I actually contacted XsitePro support a while back. I think this might have been about three or four months ago - I changed computers and couldn't get my copy of XsitePro changed over to the new computer. I do remember that for a while their help desk was down and I couldn't find any way of contacting them, but I waited a bit, and I think they ended up with a new support site. But anyway, I did get a response at their new help desk, with a new download link, almost immediately.

You might want to try again, with their new help desk site. Speaking from a purely marketing perspective, it seems to me it would really be a bad business move for them not to honor their guarantee - stuff like that really puts a dent in a merchant's credibility. As far as I know, XsitePro has a pretty solid reputation, so maybe there was an error made somewhere, somehow.

I've been trying to buy this software all day with a perfectly good credit card. Tyring to contact support too to get them to take my money and no joy. It looks like a good product but I can't try it (in terms of demo) or buy it so I am fast loosing patience.
