Replacing Adsense Public Service Ads

May 25, 2005

eli. I've I just found a few free scripts for replacing Adsense Public Service ads. I haven’t tried them out yet (I’m only just starting to get a handle on PHP scripts, and haven’t done anything with Perl scripts yet) but they look interesting.

These two replace the PSAs with Amazon text links:

RsContext (PHP)

AGAR (Perl)

This one replaces the PSAs with AllPosters links:

APGAR (PHP)

This one replaces the PSAs with your choice of text links:

Links/Google Ad Replacement (PERL)

If you want to replace the PSA ads with an image linking to an affiliate program, here’s Google Adsense Alternate Ads in Four Easy Steps.

Update: Teli made a good point in her comments, about just putting up an html page to serve your own alternates (if you're not certain how, that last link will walk you through it). If you have a merchant who converts pretty well for you, this is a really good option.

However, this made me realize I forgot to mention the cool thing about these scripts: not only are they all free, they work off the merchant's own datafeed/XML feed. So you will be able to serve alternate ads that dynamically fetch the latest items from the merchant's data. (Except for the Links/Google Ad Replacement script - I believe with that one you insert your own links.) However, like I said, I haven't used them yet myself.

those are some pretty nifty scripts BJ, but why not just create an html page that looks similar to your Adsense with links to your affiliate products?

I do that for a couple of my websites and it gives me a chance to test the conversion ratio of the products without spending an arm and a leg :)

Good point, Teli. I've updated my post to mention that the main thing about these scripts is that they give you dynamic, up-to-date links because they use the merchants' datafeed/XML feed. But using your own html page with static links would definitely let you test out specific links for other merchants.
