Software for Using Public Domain Materials

March 21, 2005

Wendy Woudstra has created a great tool to help convert public domain documents into webpage content. Her software product, Conversionary - Text to HTML Converter, enables users to add etexts as integrated, nicely formatted content in niche websites. Compared to other public domain formatting and conversion tools out there, her price can't be beat.

From the Conversionary site:

Conversionary Text to HTML Conversion oftware takes a text file, splits it up neatly into smaller files (the length of which you specify), pastes it into a template designed by you, creates a table of contents, adds next, previous and table of contents links to each page, and allows you to customize the title and meta content tags of each individual page to match the content.

Another great feature is the creation of an RSS feed for your content.

Wendy also created a niche hunting site over the weekend to demonstrate the method she uses to create content-rich niche websites. In addition to public domain documents, she also uses articles from article databases and directory generating software to create link resources geared specifically for her visitor's needs. She has specifically included a "site in a day" log documenting her process which is a must-read.

I'll be playing around with Conversionary this week. In addition to public domain resources, back in January I signed up for Nicheology, and I think Conversionary will help me make full use of my membership.

How has conversionary worked for you? I'm thinking about buying it but am a little skeptical.

Thanks.

Hi, Brennan,

I have used Conversionary a few times, and it's definitely a specialized piece of software that "does one thing and does it well". However, I actually haven't used it since I bought Xsite Pro, because Xsite Pro also has this feature and I've been using it to incorporate PD and Nicheology materials into sites I'm building with Xsite Pro.

Wendy also recently released an update to the program, which I just downloaded. I'm thinking about creating a few sites that are only PD material, in which case I thought I'd give the updated Conversionary a whirl.

It's definitely a good product for the price, and I've always found Wendy very accessible, which is a good sign in terms of future support.

Hope this helps - if you buy Conversionary, I hope your experience will be as good as mine has been.

Thanks for the info. Is there a site for x Site Pro? I'm looking into building some niche sites to increase my adsense revenue. I've already got the material written out, I just need a program to translate it into html, to help eliminate some time for me. Thanks for your response.
