Planning - Part I

Yesterday morning I officially began my "two deadlines a week" movement here in the home office. For the past month, I have been scrupulously keeping an eye on my schedule and making sure I don't overbook myself. It's been hard turning down assignments but the funny thing is, I've discovered when I tell my clients I'm booked for the time frame they want, almost all of them have responded by nudging the deadline a few days or even week in the right direction.

I'm still training my two assistants so hopefully I will be able to pass on overflow to them in the near future but in the meantime, I'm keeping a close eye on my schedule.

In celebration, I decided to take stock, and finally set myself a realistic plan. My resolve is to work four hours a day, seven days a week (on average) on my paying work. I also have to buckle down and get through the box of receipts that need to be sorted and entered for the accountant. And then there's my 20-month-old, who's going through teething pain and a clinging-to-mommy stage, especially when mommy's sitting at her computer. Not to mention a teen and a preteen and all those hormones.

Amazingly enough, I've carved out a plan that lets me focus on my work, my family and my websites! I'm still a little dazed by it all, but in these two days I've felt productive because I worked on paying assignments, focused because I've stepped leaps and bounds back into my website work after doing almost nothing (so it felt) in the past few chaotic months, and I've spent time with my family, too!

So that's part I. There's still part 2 to come. I  have to sit down and work out a coherent plan for my sites. In the meantime, I've bought some new software, discovered free software that will help me create a directory for one of my informational sites, given more thoughts to blog templates and read through some ebooks that've been waiting for my attention for a few months.

It sure feels good!

Sounds like you're really making some terrific progress, BJ. Amazing what one can accomplish by taking the time to get organized. Now, if I could only get a handle on the organizational part myself.   <---Imagine rolling eye smilie here.
