Wake Up Call!

October 30, 2004

I did finally find my copy of Rich Dad, Poor Dad - found it on a book shelf I had looked on the night before. I could have sworn it wasn't there then.

So in between meeting deadlines I've been reading away, and has it ever been a wake-up call.

For the past few years, I've been feeling dissatisfied with my work. While on the whole, I like what I do, I've been frustrated by the "cap" on my income, and at the same time, overwhelmed by the number of deadlines I have to meet in order to make my monthly income goals.

I've always been an advocate of working for yourself. For me, having my own business has translated into a much better lifestyle than if I was still stuck in the old 9 to 5 quandry.

But providing a service has its limitations. And as Rich Dad Poor Dad points out, if you have a business which always requires your presence, in many ways you are still like an employee.

According to Rich Dad, Poor Dad, we need to become financially intelligent. Instead of always struggling to work for money - which leaves most people rather dissatisfied - we need to learn to make money work for us.

I especially liked the book's simple re-definition of an asset. It's true - what we have all been taught is an "asset" usually is a liability in disguise.

So I guess I'm on the right track with my ideas for running an Internet business.

I'd really like to know, though, how to go about gaining "financial intelligence", Rich Dad Poor Dad style.
