Rethinking John Reese's Traffic Secrets

October 20, 2004

It's good to be back online after two days of very hectic deadlines (not that I was really offline, but things got so chaotic I didn't even have much chance to check email).

I figure enough time has passed that it's safe to talk about Traffic Secrets without everyone saying, "not John Reese again".

This weekend I met with a friend of mine who has been making a full-time living online for about a year now. This is the friend who actually first introduced me to the whole concept of Internet marketing. (Before that, I was more like, yeah, get serious, will you? Me? Get involved with all that hype? Not a chance.)

His ebook isn't in the Internet marketing niche. It's in another quite competitive niche but it's been doing quite well.

He bought John Reese's Traffic Secrets a while back. Initially, he had told me it wasn't quite what he'd expected, and while he was learning enough from it that he didn't intend to ask for a refund, he had actually expected a course that exposed more "higher level" or advanced secrets.

And no, he definitely wasn't recommending I rush out to purchase it.

This weekend, he told me he's been seriously going through the course a second time, taking close notes, and applying what he's learning. With this second go-around, he says he seems to be getting more out of it, and he is seeing some results. Nothing fantastic, but he's only just started implementing John's suggestions.

What seemed like quite basic stuff has more "edge" to it than he had first thought. And he's coming away from each session with a firmer conviction that these techniques, simple though they might appear, really do work.

He discovered one big thing about himself, though. He's not used to working much on his Internet marketing, even though most days he thinks he is. But now that he is going through John's course a second time and actually implementing things, he realizes there is so much more that he could be doing.

And that he actually has to do it, if he wants to see any results.

So there's definitely work involved. That in itself makes me inclined to get the course.

John is very definite about what works and what doesn't work. And my friend is now, with the second viewing, so to speak, coming away from the course with a different mindset.

This time, when I asked him whether I should get the course, he hesitated. Then he said, "maybe".

So here I am, rethinking the course. I'm debating whether to get it, and if I do get it, whether I should just buy it for myself or ... ask for it as a Christmas gift. How about that, Santa? John Reese under my tree!

But first, I think I'm going to fire off an email to my friend, just to check on how things are going so far. And there's a good chance that I'll still hold off, because I am always in such danger of suffering from analysis paralyis.

Hi BJ,

You better send an email off to Santa now if you want to beat the Christmas rush!

I have been thinking along the same lines as you as to whether it is worth getting or not.

Keep me posted on whether you take the plunge, Declan. It's a lot of money on the one hand but on the other hand if it could help jump start things I guess it's worth every penny.

The thing is, I still hesitate about buying things over the $200 mark!
