Five Minute Breaks

October 10, 2004

I've been getting through my work these past few days by doing very small tasks in between chapters of the book I'm working on right now. As a result, I see that I've actually managed to get quite a bit done.

Yesterday, I did Wordtracker research during my breaks. This worked out well and will be something I'll keep on my "short things to do while on breaks" list. It actually made the Wordtracker process itself go by a bit faster, or at least, it seemed to go faster. It's not that Wordtracker is slow - it's very quick - but when you're working with a keyword list of 1000 plus keywords, you can only do a competition search for 100 words at a time.

I ended up compiling two keyword lists for two different niches, including one list for the content sites I'm going to be working on with Ward.

I know it sounds like a lot of keywords, but my plan is to write articles for each keyword, and eventually build some large sites. I'm using this plan to build several "large-style" Martell mini-sites for the health and fitness topic I discovered last week.

One thing I really like about Wordtracker is that I can download my lists into a format that will automatically open up into an Excel document.

Today I have been going surfing on my breaks, reading back issues of various newsletters and generally just enjoying myself.

I find that these breaks are great for my productivity. I end up working on my goals - taking action, basically - and at the same time, I am doing my regular work much more efficiently.

What productive breaks you have, BJ! And there was I using my break times to take a break - like a sucker!

On this side of the Atlantic they'd say 'she's a right little goer!'

I'm just hoping that doesn't have a different meaning your side of the pond (as happened many years ago when my wife received a shocked response having told folk we'd met in San Francisco that her sister was studying to be a solicitor!)

Cheers.

Hi, Gerry,

I wish that "right little goer" really did fit me! I feel like I'm falling so far behind with my Internet marketing goals.

Here in Canada we're also "solicitors" - the only difference is that a lawyer is both a barrister & solicitor, rather than one or the other, like you have on your side of the Atlantic.

Barrister ... almost sounds like barista, doesn't it?
