Adwords + Christmas = A Good Possibility?

October 05, 2004

Those of you who've been following along since I first started this blog know that my plans have always focused on two areas - mini Martell-type sites and large content sites.

So one thing I'd been resigned to was the fact that I wouldn't be in the running for any Christmas shopping profits this year.

But just now, as I was working (still plugging away at those deadlines), it occurred to me that Adwords (and possibly Overture) would be one way to get in the running for Christmas this year.

I've always liked the thought of natural search traffic - it's an exciting process even though it takes time to get results.

But I'm starting to realize the appeal of PPC. No waiting. You put up your site, you buy some ads and then you see what happens. And I guess I don't even really need the site, either. I could just send people direct to the merchant.

In a way, I think I've always felt it was a bit like gambling. Which actually doesn't explain why I never wanted to try it, since I always have fun at the blackjack tables in Vegas!

Anyway, the one good thing about this plan is that I can do it in small bits of time (aka work breaks). I came across one product which would make an interesting Christmas gift, and that kind of stirred up ideas in my mind, so I'm going to see if I can find a few more.

It would be nice to be able to "do" Christmas this year. I'll see what I can come up with.

Hi BJ

Hope your plans to 'do' Christmas go well. I've been enjoying your blog. It's always well written and interesting. Finding the the time to come up with all these new ideas - and write them up too - can't be easy on top of your offline paying work. So kudos to you.

Hi, Gerry,

I get ideas by the bucketful. My problem is implementation! But I'm working on it.

And thank you so much for your continued feedback. It's nice to get to "know" the people who read my posts. It gives me a sense of community that's incredibly helpful and supportive.

Hi BJ,

I'm another one of your fans. I've been reading your blog for a month or so I guess. We may not be in the same boat, but I think we're definitely floating on the same lake. I'm working on a couple of Martell-type content sites so I'm reading your posts with interest.

I also am an outsider to the world of "Internet Marketing gurus" and am having an "interesting" time weeding the wheat from the chaff.

I have been meaning to say hi for a little while now. I think we're traveling in some of the same circles so I'll probably see you around here and there.

Hi, Gail,

Nice to meet you. Thanks for coming by and posting a comment. I think I've seen you at Lynn Terry's forum ...?

It does get quite "interesting" in this internet marketing world, doesn't it? And this is quite a nice lake - hopefully we'll get a chance to go boating side by side.

Here's what I'm starting to *know* - there is a whole, much wider world out there than the very narrow guru-driven niche of Internet marketing. And it's filled with Internet marketers/webmasters, most of whom are nice people, excited about what they do and happy to help out with support and advice. I'm pretty happy I've found my way here!
