Review: Webmasters Reference Marketing Newsletter
September 06, 2004
Of all the free Internet marketing newsletters I subscribe to, Sean Burns' Webmasters' Reference newsletter is the only one I read as soon as it hits my in box. (Most of the other newsletters just sit around, filtered into their own special "Internet marketing" mailbox, until I have a spare moment or two. These days, that Internet marketing mailbox looks really really full.)
I recently bought a copy of Sean's book, Rankings Revealed, but before I decided to buy the book, I spent time downloading every single one of his archived newsletters. I printed them all out and put them into a binder - yes, they are that good.
What I like best about the Webmasters Reference newsletter is that Sean uses very little hype. He writes in a straight-forward, me to you kind of way, and he points out the bad as well as the good when he writes a product review. He also gives lots of great advice about improving your rankings.
The Webmasters Reference site is also a great site to browse through. I keep going back - I don't think I've read everything he's put there yet, and I fully intend to. I've read most of his product reviews, though, and while there were a few products he recommended that I wouldn't have given as high a rating to, on the whole, I find his reviews honest and hype-free.
One article I highly recommend is a great article on, of all things, Amazon's affiliate program. I say "of all things", because it always seems to me that, when it comes to affiliate marketing, Amazon isn't really where the money is. I mean, everyone throws up those Amazon affiliate links. But if you're an Amazon affiliate, read the article - you'll definitely come away more motivated about all those Amazon affiliate links of yours.
As I mentioned, I recently bought Rankings Revealed. I'm about a third of the way through it, and it's been an interesting read. Much of what I have read so far I already knew, but I picked up some new ideas and I know I'll come away from the book with even more good ideas.
