A Solid Web Building Strategy

September 25, 2004

I mentioned last night that I'd been roaming around the WebmasterWorld forums. There's a ton of great stuff there.

One of the best things about WebmasterWorld is that you can't post URLs. I haven't read the TOS yet, but from what I could tell, you aren't even allowed to mention the names of particular products (it got a little odd sometimes, though, seeing references to a product called ****, and seeing that everyone else knew exactly which product this was.)

This means no-one is trying to sell you on anything!

(It definitely felt nice.)

I guess because you're not allowed to have a sig file, the gurus stay away.

Anyway, I discovered an excellent method of building a site as a result of last night's browsing through WebmasterWorld. And I also discovered that this forum is filled with extremely helpful and welcoming members.

Here's what happened: I was reading a thread about building a page a day. It's a long thread, and somewhere in the middle, a member had posted that he (I'm assuming "he", so my apologies if that should be "she") followed the method in Brett's original post and has never regretted it. Someone else posted about "Brett's 26 points".

I was intrigued. I tried to do a site search but came up empty-handed.

So I ended up PM'ing the member who had posted (phraSEOlogy - very cool username), and I asked if he could point me in the right direction. Not only did he point me in the right direction (I was expecting some tips on what words to site search for), he directed me to the exact post:

The title of this post is "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone".

The original article (I'm not sure which came first, the article or the post) is 26 Steps to 15k a Day.

Note: 15K refers to visitors, not dollar amounts!

And as for Brett? Brett is Brett Tabke, host of the WebmasterWorld forums. He's written an amazing number of posts, and several informative articles, including this one.

Anyway, if you have a bit of time, I'd recommend you read either the forum thread (including over 100 responses) or the article. It's short, well-thought out, and easy to read. And from all appearances, the method works. It requires work on your part, but of course, Internet marketing isn't about getting rich quickly without any effort, regardless of what anyone tells you.
