SEO Success

We've had some excitement around here recently. My husband runs a small local business, and things have been okay in the past year, but not spectacular. This spring, a competitor moved into a prime location, on the main strip in our town, and that has been quite depressing.
I mentioned in my last post that six months ago, I didn't know any SEO at all, but I've been learning a lot about it in the past few months. I'm happy that I can now say that, regardless of what happens with any of this knowledge and these tools I've been learning these past six months, all that time has definitely not gone to waste.
My husband has a great Website for his business. Lots and lots of content, and lots of visitors, but not highly targeted visitors - he's a local business, so only highly targeted visitors really do him any good. (We do use Adsense to try and take advantage of some of those many non-highly targeted visitors.)
Last month we decided to give his Website a complete overhaul. I was actually thinking about switching the entire site over to SBI, but then I took a real look at the site on the Google toolbar. He had a PR of 4! So we went to work doing some serious revamping and web writing. I applied all the things I'd learned through my research, and over the past few weeks, one by one, for each of our list of important keyword phrases, we have been finding our site on the first page in Google. Yesterday was even more exciting. We have targeted a series of keyword phrases, and our site now ranks for the top five for each of these at Google!
It's a really wonderful feeling, and I have to admit I'm now quite addicted to gazing at the site's stats. I check them every night before I go to bed, and usually quite a few times throughout the day.
The best part is that we have seen an increase in calls as a result. We've been getting a lot more calls per day, and the majority of them tell us they found us on the Internet.
So, SEO works!
